Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
The Corpus Christi Rayz and ESPN Radio - 1230AM KSIX have agreed to a deal that makes ESPN the new radio home of the Corpus Christi Rayz, the team announced on Thursday. ESPN Radio will be the primary broadcast home for Rayz regular season games, playoff games as well as a live weekly call-in Show. The first broadcast of the new season will be on Saturday, October 21st when the Rayz host the Laredo Bucks in the season opener.
The agreement calls for the Rayz to broadcast most all of their games - home and away - live and in their entirety on ESPN Radio. As part of the deal, a handful of select games will air on sister station, 1150AM - Jalapeno Oldies. The Rayz will also produce pre-game and post-game shows as part of each game broadcast, as well as the weekly call-in show, which once again take place live from Beamer's Restaurant on Staples (between Holly and Wooldridge). ESPN Radio was the Rayz flagship station for the 2003-2004 season, and Rayz General Manager, Larry Linde said that he's excited to be back.
"We're excited about teaming up with ESPN Radio once again," said Linde. "Obviously ESPN is the leader in sports programming, and with KSIX being the local sports leader, it's a great fit for us to call them our radio home. We've got some exciting, interactive things planned for our listeners this season on ESPN, and the broadcasts promise to be entertaining."
ESPN Radio - 1230AM KSIX is the local and national sports leader in Corpus Christi. With programming such as Houston Astros Baseball, the Jim Rome Show, Houston Texans Football, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders basketball, local sports shows and play-by-play and other nationally syndicated ESPN programming, 1230AM KSIX has become the radio home to all Coastal Bend sports fans.
In addition, ESPN Radio 1230AM KSIX will broadcast all Rayz home and road games worldwide via the internet on their website at www.espn1230ksix.com. ESPN 1230AM - KSIX General Manager, Jim Withers said he was pleased to back in business with the Rayz.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have the Corpus Christi Rayz back on ESPN 1230AM," said Withers. "The Rayz have an extremely loyal fan base and we wanted those fans to come to ESPN 1230AM KSIX where we feel we can offer them a first-class broadcast all season long."
Josh Bogorad will handle the play-by-play duties for the Rayz this season. Bogorad, who joined the Rayz in the summer of 2003, will have the call for his fourth consecutive season of Rayz hockey.
The Corpus Christi Rayz are currently in preparation for the 2006-2007 season. The Rayz return to the American Bank Center is only 44 days away. Corpus Christi will begin their season at home on October 21st vs. the Laredo Bucks at 7:05pm. Season ticket packages and corporate sponsorship opportunities are currently available.
