Around the Horn: M-Braves Win Cat-And-Mouse Chase
August 13, 2013 - Southern League (SL1)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
The Mississippi Braves dashed three early runs and protected the advantage through the night as they claimed a 5-3 victory over the Blue Wahoos. With the first three batters in the M-Braves order smacking hits in the first inning, Jon Moscot was roughed up across five inning and suffered his second Double-A loss. Pensacola responded in the fifth inning with a pair of scoring plays, bringing the game within one tally before Christian Bethancourt walloped a solo home run to put it out of reach. Here are the highlights as we go Around the Horn:
TEAM TUESDAY: The Wahoos celebrated Duck Dynasty night with fans dressing like their favorite reality show characters and picking up duck calls courtesy of Tom Thumb. Fans also won the custom camouflage jerseys off their favorite players' backs in a silent auction before enjoying postgame fireworks on another Out-of-School Tuesday.
NOT IN MY HOUSE: Tucker Barnhart led the charge on defense tonight, zapping two baserunners and ending threats on the basepaths. Rated by Baseball America as the best defensive catcher in the Reds organization, Barnhart stopped Edward Salcedo at second base to collect his thirty-eighth and third-ninth caught-stealing calls on the season.
WHO'S ON FIRST?: Christian Bethancourt set M-Braves history in the first inning as his single extended his on-base streak to thirty-nine games. The catcher overturned a team record that stood for four seasons while helping his cause at the plate, bumping his hitting streak to a season-high fifteen games with two hits against the Wahoos.
WELCOME BACK: Josh Fellhauer was solid in his second stint with Pensacola, slapping a leadoff double in the fifth inning and finishing 1-for-4. The outfielder was one of the team's top performers in the inaugural season, claiming Player of the Month honors last August and finishing the campaig as the circuit's second-best hitter with a .314 clip.
The Wahoos (25-25) continue the extended homestand with All-Star pitcher Tim Crabbe (6-8, 3.44 ERA) slated to start. Gates open at 7:00 PM on Faith Night as Bernie Carbo will speak about his spiritual journey prior to first pitch.Tune in to ESPN Radio (1450 AM and 101.1 FM) for streaming coverage or watch the live video feed available to online subscribers on MiLB.TV.
