SPRINGFIELD, MA FEB. 7, 2011 ¬" The Springfield Armor announced today that they have acquired Gerard Anderson from the NBA D-League's Available Player Pool. To make room on the roster, the Armor waived Brian Leggett.
Anderson, a 6'6 210 lb. guard/forward from Los Angeles, Calif., was the final selection in the 2010 NBA D-League Draft (eighth round, pick #128) by the Reno Bighorns. Anderson played in seven games with Reno from Dec. 1st-19th, averaging 0.6 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.1 minutes per game.
On January 3rd, the New Mexico Thunderbirds acquired Anderson from Reno in exchange for forward Anthony Richardson. Anderson played in seven games with New Mexico from Jan. 4th-15th, including one start, averaging 2.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 8.4 minutes per game.
Anderson began his collegiate career at Saddleback College CC in Mission Viejo, Calif., where he was a two-year starter for the Gauchos (2006-08). Anderson earned first-team All-Orange Empire Conference honors in his sophomore season when he averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Following his sophomore season, Anderson transferred to Cal-State Fullerton and achieved All-Big West Conference honorable mention status after averaging 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in 26.6 minutes per game during his junior season. As a senior, Anderson earned All-Big West Conference First Team honors, averaging 12.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Titans.
"Gerard has D-League experience and is a well-rounded player who should help us going forward," Armor Head Coach Dee Brown said.
Brian Leggett, whom the Armor released in order to acquire Anderson, played in 24 games this season with the Armor, starting six. Leggett averaged 4.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 17.5 minutes per game and had a season-high 11 points in the Armor's Dec. 18th victory over the Idaho Stampede. Leggett had been on the Armor roster since making the team via the Armor's local player tryout prior to the season.
Anderson will be in uniform for the first time when the Armor host the Maine Red Claws on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.
