Armor Acquire Almond And Cummings
SPRINGFIELD, MA Dec. 10, 2009 - The Springfield Armor today announced that both Morris Almond and T.J. Cummings will be joining the roster.
Originally selected in the first round (25th overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, Almond returns to the NBA D-League following assignments with the Utah Flash in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. There, the former Rice University player set the NBA D-League record for most points in a single regular season game with 53 (Utah at Bakersfield 1-30-08). While with the Flash, Almond started in 32 games and had an average of 25.6 ppg.
NBA D-League veteran T.J. Cummings has played on three different teams. He started off with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds for the 05-06 season where he was named All NBA D-League Honorable Mention. Then during the 06-07 season, Cummings began the season with Albuquerque, but wound up finishing the season with the L.A. Defenders. Last season he played with the disbanded Anaheim Arsenal. While in the NBA D-League, the former UCLA Bruin played in 71 games averaging 12.5 ppg.
"Both Morris and T.J. are veterans of the NBA system and bring with them a lot of talent and great experience," said Head Coach Dee Brown, "We hope that they will add more depth to our roster and elevate this already talented group of players."
Almond and Cummings arrived in Springfield today but will be sitting on the bench for tonight's game as they wait for their entrance physicals to be performed. To make room on the roster for them, the Armor waived forward Perrin Johnson and center James Cripe.
The Armor have been promoting tonight's game as the "Playing it Forward Night" in which all fans are encouraged to bring out their new and gently used sporting goods equipment to donate to underprivileged children in the area. The Armor have partnered with the YMCA of Greater Springfield and the Playing it Forward Organization, in order to collect and distribute the donations. As an added incentive for fans to donate, the Armor will be issuing two (2) free tickets to a future game for those making donations that evening.
