PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Arkansas RiverCatz opened a 38-17 lead after the first quarter and never looked back Friday night as they downed Monterrey Veneno 123-94 in their inaugural American Basketball Association (ABA) contest.

The Pine Bluff Convention Center crowd was entertained by the home team for the majority of the night as the RiverCatz placed seven players in double figures with Albert Robinson leading the way with 20 points. Former University of Arkansas standout Kareem Reid had 15 points and 15 assists, including 9 in the opening quarter, to go with 8 rebounds.

"I was really pleased how we came out for the first game," said RiverCatz coach Ed Corporal. "I saw a big difference tonight than in our exhibition game. We were well balanced which is always good to see. I was very pleased with our defensive effort as well. Overall, a good way to get the season started."

The Veneno (0-2) , losers in their opener Thursday against the Arkansas Aeros, had six of their eight players in double figures, with Kenneth Lawrence and Dre Hardwick leading the way with 20 points apiece in the losing effort.

The RiverCatz play host to the Mississippi Miracles next Friday in a contest slated for 7:05 p.m. at the Convention Center.
