
Aeros win ABA season opener over Monterrey

Springdale, AR. The Arkansas Aeros kicked off the 2006-2007 ABA season Thursday night with a 150-114 victory over Monterrey Veneno in a contest played at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.
The Aeros led 76-55 at halftime before cruising the remainder of the way. The Aeros (1-0) had five players in double figures with Daryan Selvey's 29 leading the way. Jarred Merrill (23), Curtis Haywood (23) and Todd Day (22) all broke the 20-point barrier for the winners as Quannas White just missed the mark in finishing with 18.
Veneno (0-1) was led by Kenneth Lawrence's 39 points with teammate James Fontenet chipping in 33 on the strength of a 11 of 19 effort from behind the 3-point line. Up next for the Aeros is a home contest with the Waco Wranglers, while the Veneno travel to Pine Bluff Friday to meet the other Arkansas ABA team, the RiverCatz, with tip off slated for 705 at the Convention Center in Pine Bluff AR.
