SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The American Basketball Association's top team, the Arkansas Aeros, closed out the 2006 portion of their schedule on a winning note with a 149-126 victory Saturday night over the Houston Undertakers.
The Aeros, 16-2, got triple-doubles from Curtis Haywood (32 points, 20 rebounds, 14 assists) and Quannas White (12 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists) in the victory which came after the game was delayed about 50 minutes due to the late-arriving visitors from Houston (4-8).
Regardless, Todd Day's 22 first-half points got the Aeros out to a 75-54 halftime advantage over an Undertaker team that arrived at the All-Star Sports Arena with just seven players.
"We had enough good plays in us to keep control of the game," said Aeros coach Bob Hoffman. "They (Houston) gave a great effort to be short-handed.
"I'm thankful for the win, and thankful for our crowd. Our fans were pretty loud tonight which was nice to have in our favor."
Haywood scored 21 of his game-high 32 points in the second half as Day cooled off in finishing with 30.
Carlos Wheeler led six Undertakers in double figures as he finished with 3o.
The Aeros are slated to tangle with the Mississippi Miracles on Thursday night in Greenville, Miss.
