Arkansas Aeros #1 team in ABA Power Rankings
December 6, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas Aeros News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - In just their first season in the American Basketball Association, the Arkansas Aeros are already making an early impact in the 2006-07 campaign.
The 9-1 Aeros were named Sunday the No. 1 team in the ABA Power Rankings, a recognition head coach Bob Hoffman said his team appreciates, though the he and the squad know there's a lot of basketball left to be played this season.
"It's a nice feeling to be ranked that high," said Hoffman, a former assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. "It's a reflection on how well our guys are playing together. We've done a good job scoring, but we've also done a good job stopping some really good teams when we needed to."
This week's rankings were the second set to come out from the ABA. The Aeros, who were second in the initial poll to the Jacksonville Jam, are joined in the rankings by their sister team, the Arkansas RiverCatz (7-3), who came in at the 11th spot for the week ending Dec. 2nd.
The top 24 teams as ranked in the ABA Power Rankings at the end of the season will advance to postseason play.
"We'll just have to see how it all plays out over the course of the season," Hoffman said. "It's a good place to be, but our immediate goal is to keep getting better each time out on the floor."
The Aeros are in the midst of a five-game road trip with the heart of the trip set to play out over the next few days with three games in Texas. Included in the Texas road swing is a meeting in Dallas on Sunday against the Texas Tycoons, the team that handed the Arkansas squad its lone defeat of the year - a 142-122 decision back on Nov. 16th.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
