San Diego Wildcats News Release
Beijing Aoshen Olympian team came back to San Diego to try their hand at beating the Wildcats. However, this time they were not armed with their star player, Fred Vinson, who leads the team in scoring this season, due to injury. The teams seemed evenly matched throughout the first period. Michael McNair threw down some impressive three-pointers while Jamaal Jenkins added to the team's overall totals by consistently scoring. To end the quarter, the Wildcats came on with a vengeance with back-to-back threes from Cardell Butler and Jamal Kendrick.
Entering the second quarter play got sloppy as the teams traded turnovers. However, Phil Givens stopped the madness by posting up a pretty lay-up. The game remained close with the Cats holding a slight lead throughout the first half until Butler and Givens helped give them some cushion with two consecutive three pointers. Just as quickly as the Wildcats amassed a comfortable lead, Beijing came back with a renewed energy to tie the game with less than two minutes left in the period. Going into the half, the Wildcats lead by only one point.
Ultimately, this game came down to which team wanted the "W" more. Beijing's coach showed his frustration with his team's lackluster play as he yelled at the bench in an effort to spark some life in his team. Suddenly with four minutes left in the game, both teams decided to duke it out for the victory. Just as San Diego's lead was cut down to just one, Ballaholic hit a clutch three. Kendrick followed up with a pretty series of jumpers to extend the lead back to six.
With about a minute left in the game, San Diego lost the lead and was in jeopardy of losing the game. A quick series of plays up and down the court allowed Beijing to top the Wildcats, 118-116.
