Despite two goals from midfielder Luke Rooney, Arizona United Soccer Club fell to San Antonio FC, 3-2, at Toyota Field in San Antonio. Arizona United falls to 8-9-6 with 30 points. San Antonio FC improves to 7-8-7 with 28 points. Rooney's first goal came just before the end of the first half. The midfielder struck his shot from about 30 yards away and placed it into the upper left corner of the net to cut Arizona United's deficit to one and make it 2-1 at the half. His second goal came on a penalty kick in the 87th minute. San Antonio scored the first two goals of the match. Carlos Alvarez broke the scoreless battle in the 32nd minute when he beat goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski one on one near the top of the box. Alvarez's teammate, Franck Tayou, doubled the lead when his strike from the top of the box beat Woszczynski to his left and gave the club a 2-0 lead. San Antonio's final goal, which became the game winner, came off the boot of Cesar Elizondo, who took advantage of an Arizona United turnover deep in the defensive zone. His shot, from about 25 yards out, rolled just inside the left post to make it 3-1 at the time. Arizona United SC heads back on the road for league action on Sunday, August 21, against Whitecaps FC 2. That match kicks off at 3:00 P.M. The team will have an official watch party at the Rose and Crown Pub (628 E Adams St) in downtown Phoenix.
