Arizona Rattlers Sign Ron Jones

MESA, Ariz. - Arizona Rattlers head coach Kevin Guy announced the signing of DE RON JONES today.

In Jones, the Rattlers have added an elite pass rusher who, under Guy's tutelage, led the San Jose SaberCats to an Arena Football championship in 2007 and was named second team All-Arena that year. That season, Jones started 14 games and had eight sacks and four forced fumbles. He followed that up in 2008 with six sacks and five pass breakups in the regular season. He was a standout at Southern Mississippi, ending his collegiate career 106 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a rookie free agent, and also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts.

"Ron is a player that possesses size, speed and power," said Guy. "He can be a game-changer when he's playing at a high level. We're happy to have him here as an Arizona Rattler."

The Rattlers have also recently added FB/LB FRANK TRENTADUE, QB BILLY FARRIS and WR JASON JONES to their 2010 roster. Trentadue, a fan favorite in Arizona, is a six-year veteran of Arena Football, five with the Rattlers. Farris threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 19 touchdowns his senior season at Colorado State before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Jones, who played for the Buffalo Bills, was a collegiate standout, becoming only one of two players in Southwestern Atlantic Conference history to have more than 2,000 yards and 20 receiving touchdowns.

Arizona Rattlers Open Tryout

The Arizona Rattlers will be holding their annual open tryout at Salt River High School on Saturday, January 23rd. Fans and media are invited to watch the tryouts, which run from 11am to 2pm. More information is available at www.azrattlers.com/tryouts.
