
Aristodemo, Sakuda Named To MISL All-Rookie Team

Westport, Conn.- The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced that San Diego Sockers midfielder Robbie Aristodemo and defender Kevin Sakuda were named to the 2002-03 MISL All-Rookie Team. Aristodemo also finished second in voting for the MISL Rookie of the Year behind Baltimore's PJ Wakefield.
Aristodemo and Sakuda were the only two Sockers to play in all 36 games this season. Aristodemo finished the season with 38 points, including two three-point goals and 11 two-point goals. The midfielder totaled 11 assists and blocked 18 shots during the season.
"It usually takes players a season to adjust and contribute when playing indoors," says Sockers Head Coach Brian Quinn. "Robbie has made a big impact in his first year with the Sockers and will be a huge part of this team's future success."
Sakuda, a defender from Fremont, Calif., registered 31 goals in his inaugural season with the Sockers. He also totaled 11 points, including five goals and one assist.
"Kevin has progressed very nicely over the course of the season and I am glad to see him on the MISL All-Rookie Team with Robbie [Aristodemo]."
Forward Carlos "Chile" Farias was honored by the league yesterday as a member of the All-MISL Second Team.
Other MISL awards include:
- Genoni Martinez of the Harrisburg Heat was voted the MISL Defender of the Year. Martinez led the league with 88 blocks while setting a new single-season record for the Heat. Martinez has also been named to the 2002-03 All-MISL First Team.
- Goalkeeper for Milwaukee Wave, Victor Nogueira has been named the MISL's Top Goalkeeper for the 12th time in his career. Nogueira, once voted the "Number One Indoor Goalkeeper in the World", has also added four League MVP Awards to his list of accolades.
- Keith Tozer, head coach for the Milwaukee Wave, was named the Coach of the Year. Tozer, finished his 11th season with the Wave and is a five-time recipient for the award.
- Kansas City's Dino Delevski won his second consecutive MISL Most Valuable Player Award. Delevski led the league with 50 goals and 140 points.
