Published on April 23, 2003 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
(Westport, CT. â April 23, 2003) The Major Indoor Soccer League announced the 2002-03 MISL All-Rookie Team today. The squad is made up with one player who helped his team win the MISL Championship, one player who played for his team in the League's final Championship series and two upcoming stars for San Diego. Every player represented on this year's MISL All-Rookie Team played in this season's MISL Playoff round except one.
The 2002-03 MISL All-Rookie Team begins with Goalkeeper Jesse Llamas of the Dallas Sidekicks who was the only MISL All-Rookie Team member not to see action in this year's MISL Playoffs. In Dallas, Llamas backed up the Sidekicks number one goalkeeper Sagu and saw limited action but as a rookie showed promise for the future.
The San Diego Sockers placed two promising rookies on the team, defenseman Kevin Sakuda and forward Robbie Aristodemo. Sakuda scored 11 points (5-2PG's â 1 As) and played in the Western Conference Semi-Final game with the Kansas City Comets. Aristodemo played in all 36 of the Sockers games and finished the season with 38 points (2-3PG's, 11-2PG's, 10-As.) and finished third in shots with 88 for the Sockers. Aristodemo scored a 3- point goal in the Sockers loss to the Kansas City Comets in the MISL Western Conference Semi-Final Game.
The Milwaukee Wave placed defenseman Carl Schmitt on this year's MISL All-Rookie Team. This season Schmitt played in 23 Wave games and had 21 blocks. Schmitt also played in all four of the Wave's MISL Playoff games and scored a 2-point goal and registered 3 blocks. Schmitt is the first Milwaukee Wave defenseman to make the MISL All-Rookie Team since current Wave defenseman Lovelace Ackah made the first team during the 1999-2000 season.
Forward Anthony Maher represents the Cleveland Force on this year's MISL All-Rookie Team. He played in 35 of the Force's 36 regular season games and scored 23 points (8-2 PG's â7 As.) and had 10 blocks.
