Toronto Argonauts News Release
TORONTO - The Argonauts 150th anniversary season begins Sunday night with a 7:00pm kickoff against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and fans won't want to miss everything the team has planned for the special night, including the ring giveaway, autograph signing from past Argo legends, custom championship merchandise and great food and beverage deals.
Details include:
A pre-game ceremony will get underway at 6:45pm where the Boatmen will unveil their 18th Grey Cup banner, in honour of their 24-23 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last November.
The first 10,000 fans that enter BMO Field will receive a beautiful Grey Cup championship replica ring.
"For players, the ring is the thing," said Argonauts general manager Michael "Pinball" Clemons. "The fact that we're able to share such a beautiful memento of a memorable season with our fans just adds to the significance of the ring. It is poetic equity because our fans are our champions."
Fans will be able to enter the stadium at 5:30. The Shipyard will be open at that time, with two fan favourites from the 2012 Grey Cup championship team - defensive linemen Ricky Foley and Adriano Belli - signing autographs from 5:30 until 6:15.
The popular $7 beer, $3 hotdog promotion returns. The deal is available stadium wide, not just in the Shipyard.
Additional replica Grey Cup rings and a full selection of Argos merchandise will be available, including customizable jerseys.
In celebration of the season opener, the iconic CN Tower will be lit in Double Blue on Saturday night. Those Argo-themed displays will run at the bottom of each hour after sunset. As well, the famous TORONTO sign in Nathan Phillips Square will be lit in Double Blue on Sunday.
