Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto - The Toronto Argonauts are preparing to avenge last Saturday's loss as the rematch is set against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Rogers Centre. The Stamps have not won a game in Toronto since 2000 and the Argos will battle to make sure that streak is extended.
The Nissan Tailgate Party starts early for the weekend game, making the Argos game a destination for great entertainment value and fun. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., the tailgate features music, food, beverages and the 2008 Argos cheerleaders and is located in the Bremner St. parking lot on the south side of Rogers Centre. Families should visit the Generation A Zone outside of Gate 11 which includes the RONA Football Interactive Inflatable, 6000 square feet of space for fans of all ages to test their football skills.
The September 27 game will also be the first opportunity for fans to purchase the 2009 Argos Cheerleaders calendar. Back for a third year, the 2009 edition sees the current squad pay homage to Argos cheerleaders of the past, posing in vintage Argos cheerleader uniforms. The 12-month calendar features all 32 cheerleaders in action poses, and is available for only $10.
Pre-game ceremonies celebrate the CAW and the City of Oshawa which will both have special sections at the game. Kickoff duties will be handled by Ken Lewenza, President, CAW and the Mayor of Oshawa, John Gray. Coin toss duties will be shared by Durham Region native and Olympic Bronze Medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep and Jim O'Neil, National Secretary-Treasurer, CAW.
Halftime will feature TSN/Wendy's Kick For A Million Quarter-Finals. The winner will represent the East in the semi-final kick-down against the western finalist on October 2 in hopes of qualifying for the final on October 3 live at halftime at Rogers Centre as one finalist will attempt to split the uprights from the 50-yard line in hopes of winning $1 million.
During the game, Argonauts' CEO Michael "Pinball" Clemons will be celebrated for his recent induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. As well, the festivities will continue at a special post-game party at Jack Astor's, 144 Front Street. The evening will include a visit from Pinball, as well as live music, drink specials and the opportunity to meet your favourite Argos players and cheerleaders.
Tomorrow, Go Transit riders can purchase a special $20 ticket to the lower bowl for this game as Argos players and cheerleaders, as well as CEO Michael "Pinball" Clemons, will be at Union Station for a special one-day sale from 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
