May 10, 2012 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts are stockpiling talent for training camp, deepening the competition for roster spots. Today, the Club announced that it has added four import players - DB Ahmad Carroll, DE Curtis Johnson, receiver Jessie Hubbard and DB Jamaan Webb - to its arsenal.
In Ahmad Carroll, the Argonauts have found an experienced defensive back with great tackling ability and a nose for the ball. The former 2004 first round NFL draft pick (25th overall) of the Green Bay Packers made his mark in the NFL as a consistent starter in his first two seasons with the Packers, during which he started a total of 27 games, amassing 99 tackles (53 solo tackles). Carroll also made appearances with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets where he started 16 games, recording 22 tackles, mostly on special teams. The sub 4.34-second 40 defensive back will be a welcome addition to the Argos defensive unit.
With a 6'3", 254 pound frame, Curtis Johnson caught the eye of scouts with his quickness and power. In 2008, Johnson had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts where he played in seven games, recording four tackles and one sack. Johnson also had brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys, playing three games and recording one tackle, the St. Louis Rams and the New Orleans Saints. As a member of Clark Atlanta College, his most impressive year was in 2007 where he was named SIAC Conference Defensive Player of the Year, recording 112 tackles and 14 sacks in 11 games.
Throughout the NSIC, it was known by defensive coordinators that the multi-faceted Jessie Hubbard was a player that needed special attention during preparation. As a Peacock, the multi-purpose receiver compiled 152 receptions for 2,340 yards and 19 touchdowns. The two-time All-NSIC South Second Team receiver also contributed 41 kick-returns for a total of 924 yards and one touchdown over the course of his university career. Hubbard looks to make his mark in the CFL this season with his game-changing abilities, bringing depth and versatility to the Argos receiving corps.
Fresh out of college and only 19 years of age, Jamaan Webb is ready to make his mark with the Argos. The versatile defensive back from Bethany College had two outstanding years for the Bisons, receiving an Honourable Mention All-PAC both years, accumulating 120 tackles including a career-high 13 tackles against Westminster.
