Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto, ONâThe Toronto Argonauts Football Club today announced a new agreement with Rogers Centre that will see North America's oldest professional football team remain at Rogers Centre.
Several key factors influenced the Argonauts' decision:
With the new agreement, the Argonauts will have a great home schedule. The Club has been given the optimum playing dates it desired to best serve its fans, the league and the team.
The new ownership of Rogers Centre has made a number of recent positive stadium enhancements and is committed to continually improving the customer experience for all events.
The facility licensing fee agreed to by the organizations is a mutually beneficial arrangement that ensures the Club's long-term future in Toronto.
Attendance at Argonauts home games almost doubled in the past season and is expected to continue to grow.
"Our passion is for our team and for our fans," said Argonauts co-owner David Cynamon. "We want to be in a stadium that can accommodate our growing support, with a fan and family-friendly schedule, and fit with our economic structure."
Added Argo co-owner Howard Sokolowski, "There is a special responsibility that comes with owning an historic franchise like the Argos. We owe it to our fans and, indeed, to the entire community, to make sure that this 132 year old club continues to prosper and grow."
The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003.
