AquaSox Crush Three Homers, Lose 9-6 To Spokane

EVERETT, WA: The AquaSox dropped game one of their six game series with the Spokane Indians on Tuesday night. The scoring came early and often as the Indians scored eight of their nine runs in the first two innings. Everett did get home runs from Walking Cabrera, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Cole Young as well as seven innings of one run ball out of the bullpen from Nick Davila, but it was not enough for the victory.
Spokane arrived in Everett, ready to play. They put up a three spot in the first frame, highlighted by a two-run home run from Nic Kent. Things could have been much worse for the AquaSox, but Walking Cabrera made a spectacular diving catch in left, saving more runs from going on the board, and welcoming himself back to the roster after a lengthy injured list stint.
Cabrera continued to be the showstopper early in the game. After saving runs on defense, he immediately vanquished Spokane's advantage in the bottom of the first, launching a grand slam over the right center field wall to make it 4-3 Frogs.
As the game entered the second, it looked like it was going to be a high scoring night at the yard. Spokane scored again on a Ronaiker Palma single, that was aided by an Everett error. With the score tied 4-4, Ryan Scott went to his bullpen early, pulling Jordan Jackson after only 1.1 innings and handing the ball to Bernie Martinez.
Unfortunately, the change did not stop the scoring. Juan Guerrero picked up an RBI single, which was followed by an RBI walk from Sterlin Thompson and another RBI single from Jamari Taylor. After all was said in done, the Indians had an 8-4 lead after an inning and a half.
Everett's comeback attempt would begin in the bottom of the third, when Gonzalez hit his sixth home run in just 10 AquaSox games to make it an 8-5 ballgame.
AquaSox reliever Nick Davila was fantastic out of the pen. He shut down Spokane from the third through the sixth, giving up zero runs on just three hits and striking out four. Unfortunately, Spokane reliever Anderson Pilar was just as dominant, as he held the AquaSox to no runs on one hit with four strikeouts.
Davila on an RBI single from Ryan Ritter that made it 9-5 Spokane in the seventh. The Frogs immediately responded though on a Cole Young solo home run against Pilar that made it 9-6 but that was as close as things would get. Juan Mejia closed things out and earned his first save of the season for Spokane as the Indians collected the 9-6 victory.
Davila finished his night after seven innings of one run ball where he struck out seven.
