Wenatchee AppleSox News Release
The Wenatchee AppleSox scored five unanswered runs, including one in the bottom of the ninth, to defeat the Corvallis Knights, 5-4, on Saturday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
Corey Jarrell and Joichiro Oyama drew back-to-back walks to open the bottom of the ninth inning and Jarrell scored when Matt Halbach hit a hot shot to the second baseman Mason Le that he could not handle. Jarrell scored from second to give Wenatchee its first walkoff victory of the season.
Reese Ligtenberg (2-2) tossed the final five innings in relief to earn the victory. He allowed one run in the fifth but none after that and struck out three match his longest effort of the season out of the bullpen.
The AppleSox began Saturday a bit sluggish as Corvallis took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth but Wenatchee would respond. Three consecutive singles to open the inning led to the first run as Jarrell drove in Sherrod and then Joichiro Oyama put down a push bunt to the right side to sacrifice himself but score Cole Miller.
Miller came through for the AppleSox in the sixth with a two-out game-tying single after Enzo Apodaca cut the deficit to one with an RBI groundout two batters prior.
The AppleSox can pick up a series victory on Sunday when they face the Knights at 1:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at saferseating.com.
