Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal, Feb. 10, 2009 - 2008's CFL Most Outstanding Player Anthony Calvillo confirmed today that his wife, Alexia, is officially in remission from her B-cell lymphoma and that he will be back this coming season.
"I'm excited and relieved to inform everyone that my wife Alexia is officially in remission," Anthony Calvillo said. "There are so many people who have showed us support throughout this overwhelming experience. I want to thank the fans first - their support has been tremendous. I want to thank the Montreal Alouettes organization - from our owner, Bob Wetenhall, to our president, Larry Smith, General Manager Jim Popp, Head Coach Marc Trestman and everyone in the organization, coaches, players, support staff - thank you for understanding and support throughout this ordeal. I also want to thank the entire CFL community, which has been there from the start."
Calvillo confirmed he has signed a new one-year contract plus an option with the team.
"Montreal is home," Calvillo said. "This is where my family is, this is where I built my career, this is where my team is and this is where my fans are. I am excited to continue what we started building last year with Coach Trestman, and with the work Jim Popp has done re-signing all our potential free agents, I am very optimistic for the upcoming year."
Calvillo was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2008 for the second time, the first coming in 2003. He was also named an East Division and CFL All-Star. He dominated the league last year, passing for 5,633 yards and 43 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions. He also set a new team record with 472 completions.
