Sioux City Explorers News Release
St. Paul, MN - The Sioux City Explorers battle from behind, plating three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5, but would fall to St. Paul in the ninth with another walk-off home run (the second walk-off allowed in a row for X's).
St. Paul scored early and often to start the game on Monday, plating five runs in the first and second innings. An RBI single by Tony Thomas, a three-run homer by Willi Argo and a sac-fly RBI by Alonzo Harris were responsible for the five quick runs in innings one and two.
Explorers plated their first runs in the fourth inning. X's shortstop Nate Sampson reached first with an RBI single. On the next at-bat, X's third baseman Tommy Mendonca smashed a two-run home run to cut the lead to 5-2.
The X's weren't finished yet, scoring three more runs in the sixth inning to tie it at 5-5. Back-to-back RBI singles to right-field scored the three runs for Sioux City. Tim Colwell knocked in one run with an RBI single, and Derrick Robinson scored three with his base-hit to right.
St. Paul would go on to win it, in the bottom of the ninth inning, with a walk-off home run by Saints centerfielder Alonzo Harris to clinch the 6-5 victory. That makes back-to-back walk off home runs allowed by the Explorers in the last two games.
Explorers starter Graham Johnson (3-0) got the no decision on the night, allowing five runs in five innings pitched. X's right-hander Rob Wort (0-1) was charged with the loss, giving up the walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
Saints starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (4-0) finished with a no decision, giving up five runs in six innings. St. Paul reliever Ryan Rodebaugh (1-1) received the win, pitching two scoreless innings.
