Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
They are back! The team from Chicago that took two out of threIte games the last time they were at the Nelson Center is back in town for another three game series with our Jr. Blues. We also have a new Assistant Captain on the Blues, and it's Ethan Nauman. Ethan has demonstrated leadership skills that led to the announcement, so kudos to the kid from Mosinee, Wisconsin. He has stood out with his hustle and skill and now has been rewarded for his efforts. Way to go Ethan. (Of course, I hate to brag, but I taught the young man all my leadership skills, and he was an excellent student, obviously)
Tonight we will see how the Blues respond. Will the good team show up to play, or the "Bad and Ugly" one. There has been a lot of frustration by the efforts of the team at times. If the guys play consistently up to their talent they are going to get tougher to beat...Just ask Topeka and St. Louis. We'll see soon. It's time for warm ups.
The first period just flew by with no goals going into the nets. The Blues played much better in this first period as opposed to the first period of the last Chicago trip downstate. Both teams match up well against each other, and you have to wonder why Chicago's record is so poor. Sometime teams match up better against each other and that seems to be the case with these two clubs. Both teams had chances with their Power Plays, but both Goalies rose to the challenge, and kept the pucks out of goal. Let's see how the second period goes, it's up next and should continue to be exciting.
I really dislike computers! But I love this hockey game. There were six goals scored in the second period, with the Good Guys leading by a score of 4 - 2 at the second intermission. Cody Dixon scored his first goal as a Jr. Blue and that opened the flood gates. Kyle Cook scored after Chicago tied the game to give the Blues a 2 - 1 lead. Ethan Nauman scored twice in less than three minutes to give the Blues a 4 - 1 lead, but Chicago came up with another goal at the 18:30 mark to round out the second period goals. The third period should be interesting. in less than three minutes to give the Blues a 4 - 1 lead, but Chicago came up with another goal at the 18:30 mark to round out the second period goals. The third period should be interesting.
The Jr. Blues simply disintegrated in the third. Chicago came back with a vengeance and scored four goals to take a 6 - 4 victory. The Blues couldn't pass or put any offensive threat up against the Chicago goalie. The air came out of their sails and they went down to their 15th defeat of the season. Tomorrow night is another game. Maybe the Good Guys can regroup from this painful loss. When Chicago comes to town, they definitely don't look like a last place divisional team.
Again, the Blues inconsistent play cost them a victory. This time it was more painful as they had the game well in hand during the first two periods only to fall apart in the third. Let's hope they can regroup for the next two games with the Hitmen.
