Another Offensive Explosion: 67's Take 2-0 Series Lead on Niagara

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's have endured a rough go whenever the opposition scores the first goal. Most of the time, when the other team got the first goal, the 67's had difficulty winning.

That certainly wasn't the case on Saturday afternoon at TD Place against the IceDogs from Niagara, as the team went on a scoring rampage in the second period after the opponents struck first.

The fans were loving every moment of that 67's scoring spree, which began with an Alex Lintuniemi goal at 2:46 of the second, just half a minute after Brendan Perlini counted during a power play to give Niagara a very brief lead.

Then Nathan Todd scored at 5:50 off an eye-popping feed from captain Travis Konecny. Then Curtis Meighan at 6:13. Then Nevin Guy at 8:45. Then Dante Salituro at 10:31 and, finally, Jeremiah Addison at 19:08.

It was a blowout and a statement game by the 67's who cruised to an 8-2 victory and a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Ontario Hcokey League quarter-final against the IceDogs.

Orleans native Brent Moran started in net for Niagara and allowed five goals on 10 shots before giving way to Brandon Hope with half the second period left on the clock.

Nevin Guy, who comes from Mountain just south of the city, added four assists to his goal and had his first five-point match since last season during the annual School Day Game.

Konecny set up four of his team's goals. Dante Salituro scored another goal in the final period, as did defenceman Jacob Middleton.

Evan de Haan, another home-grown Ottawa-area player, had three assists.

Herbst made 22 saves and picked up his second win of the series.

The 67's took full advantage of four power play opportunities, scoring on three of them.

The series now moves to wine country and the Regional Municipality of Niagara for the next two games. The third game goes Monday at 7 p.m. at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, followed by the fourth game on Wednesday at the same location for a 7 p.m. start.

If a fifth game is required, it would be played at TD Place on Good Friday, April 3 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
