Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (March 20, 2007) - The Brockton Rox have announced that the team has re-signed two more significant players from the 2006 roster. Last year's Most Valuable Pitcher John Kelly, and rookie standout Joe Hough were both recently re-signed to play in the City of Champions in 2007.
John Kelly was nearly perfect in 2006 after the Rox acquired the veteran right-hander in a trade with the New Jersey Jackals in June. He recorded a save in his first appearance, and proceeded to win his first five starts in a Rox uniform. In 15 appearances with Brockton, he was 8-1 with a 1.92 ERA. He posted double-digit victories for the second consecutive season, finishing with 10 wins overall. Kelly was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the 1994 MLB draft. He holds the Can-Am League records for most wins and most strikeouts by a pitcher in a single season.
Joe Hough continued a tradition of rookie excellence in Brockton with a stellar 2006 performance. In 58 games, the West Roxbury, MA native batted .265 with 5 homeruns and 21 RBI. He tied for the team lead with 16 stolen bases. He went on to lead the team and the league in the 2006 Can-Am League Playoffs. Before coming to Brockton, Hough was named the 2005 America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player while playing for the University of Maine.
The Rox open the 2007 season on Friday, May 25th at Campanelli Stadium against the New Haven County Cutters. Season tickets, Mini-plans, and group outings are on sale now through the Rox offices at (508) 559-7000.
