WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (MARCH 14, 2013) - To kick off the 2013 season, the Winston-Salem Dash will hold their fourth-annual Coaches Luncheon on Tuesday, April 2, at noon inside the Womble Carlyle Club at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash will honor their Service Through Sports Award winner, announce their official team charity for the 2013 season and introduce this season's team to the community for the first time.

The Dash's Service Through Sports Award honors a local individual who has made a lasting impact through his or her involvement in athletics. The team's official charity benefits from the Dash's Commemorative Brick Program, through which fans can purchase a brick that is installed outside the main gates at BB&T Ballpark. The Coaches Luncheon will be the first public event for Dash players and coaches after their arrival in Winston-Salem following spring training in Glendale, Ariz.

The afternoon's festivities will run from noon until approximately 1 p.m. Tickets for the Coaches Luncheon are $10, and admission includes a buffet lunch of ballpark fare and free parking in the Founders Lot off Peters Creek Parkway. Tickets must be purchased in advance via credit card by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287.

This year's Service Through Sports Award recipient will be the fourth in the program's history. The late Clarence "Big House" Gaines, who coached Winston-Salem State University's men's basketball team for 47 years, was the inaugural winner. Wake Forest University baseball coach Tom Walter took home the honor in 2011, while Bob and Lisa Gfeller's work through the Matthew Gfeller Foundation was recognized last year.

Over the last three years, the Dash have recognized Brenner Children's Hospital, the Centers for Exceptional Children and, most recently, the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem as the organization's official charity. All proceeds from the Commemorative Brick Program benefit the community outreach programs of both the Dash and the club's charity partner.

Those who attend the Coaches Luncheon will also meet most of the players on Winston-Salem's Opening Day roster. Every player will be introduced to the crowd, and new manager Ryan Newman will speak about the team as it prepares for its season opener three days later.

The Coaches Luncheon coincides with the Dash's annual Media Day, during which members of the local media will interview players and coaches on the field.

"The Coaches Luncheon has become our unofficial start of the baseball season at BB&T Ballpark," Dash team President Geoff Lassiter said. "Our community has embraced this special event, and we can't wait to introduce our new roster, honor our Service Through Sports Award winner and announce our official 2013 charity."

The Dash's 2013 regular season begins Friday, April 5, against the Carolina Mudcats in Zebulon, N.C. One week later, the club opens up the home slate with a 7 p.m. date against the Mudcats. Single-game tickets are on sale now, so call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com to secure your seats.

The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call (336) 714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
