Last week, Angel City won 2-1 on the road against the Utah Royals FC, making it their third victory in the last four matches with goals from Sydney Leroux and Claire Emslie. The first came from forward Leroux after forward Alyssa Thompson made the perfect cross in the 29th minute. Claire Emslie followed that up in the 38th minute with a penalty kick.Royals midfielder Dana Foederer cut the lead in the 56th minute with the Royals' only goal.

Houston's last game was a 0-1 loss at home against NJ/NY Gotham FC,their first loss in the past three matches, with the lone goal coming from Gotham's star forward Lynn Williams in the eighth minute of the match.

Against Houston, Angel City are 1-0-3 all-time, having earned a 0-0 draw at home in their last meeting with the team.

Scouting Report

After a disappointing 10th-place finish in 2023, Houston brought in a new coach this past offseason, former Celtic Women manager Fran Alonso. Much of the team's core from last season, including goalkeeper Jane Campbell, forward Diana Ordoñez, and midfielder Sophie Schmidt, remains intact, but Alonso has also made a handful of big-name signings.

Ordoñez currently leads the Dash in scoring with three goals on eight shots on target.

From within the NWSL, the Spaniard brought in veteran midfielder Yuki Nagasato from Chicago. Internationally, Swiss forward Ramona Bachmann, who has not played in the US since the WPS era, made the move from Paris Saint-Germain. Sunday will also mark the return of defender Paige Nielsen to BMO Stadium, who was traded by ACFC to Houston on April 20.

Making History

ACFC forwards have been setting the bar high in recent matches for the club. Thompson became the youngest player in NWSL history and first player in ACFC club history to record an assist in three consecutive matches for the club.

Leroux earned her second goal of the season in the match against Utah, making it her 43rd career regular season goal. She is now tied with Carli Lloyd for 10th in league history.

Emslie became the first player in club history to score in three consecutive regular season games. She is currently tied for second in the current Golden Boot race with five goals this season, just two behind Portland Thorns FC star forward, Sophia Smith.
