JACKSONVILLE - Shark fans can get excited to see one of their very own receivers still on the field this season. Devin Wilson will be hitting the football field in 2020 but wearing a headset instead of a helmet. The First Team All-NAL receiver will serve as Andrew Jackson High Schools' new receiver coach.

Wilson made some comments regarding the cancellation of the National Arena League 2020 season, "I would be lying if I said I wasn't upset a little about it, but I have trust in the NAL, and that hopefully, we have the right people in the right position to make these decisions...I had extremely high expectations for the 2020 season."

Being no stranger to playing in adversity, Wilson was a rising star from the Maine Mammoths, a team that started the 2018 season slow and went on a five-game winning streak at the end of the season. Wilson had 28 touchdowns during the regular season.

Wilson was the only First Team All-NAL player on the Mammoths during the 2018 year and ended up following coach James Fuller back to the Jacksonville Sharks for the 2019 season. Wilson now has two NAL Championships under his belt. Both with the Sharks in 2017 and 2019. In the 2019 regular season, Wilson played in 14 games. He made 102 receptions for 1179 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Though becoming a coach is his fall job, this position will solidify Wilson in Jacksonville for a likely return to the Sharks lineup for next season expected to kick off in April 2021.

Wilson mentioned some of his former Shark teammates played at Andrew Jackson and, "...to be a part of something with a purpose is particularly important to me, and to be a part of bringing Jackson back to its respectful place in Jacksonville is big for its community."

The high school has posted the 2020 season schedule on their website with their first big kick-off being scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2020, at 6 p.m. against Parker High School.

Wilson stated, "I look to bring true passion and love for the game. With me being a new coach, I am looking forward to learning and seeing the game from a different perspective...I hope my love for the game can rub off onto my players."
