(Vancouver) Following another dominant performance last Thursday in a dramatic 26-23 win over the Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions running back Andrew Harris has earned one of three CFL Top Performer nominations as announced by the league this morning.
Harris, the league's top-ranked running back rumbled for 118 rushing yards on 20 carries and added another 57 yards on four receptions including a 31-yard major with a little over a minute remaining in the game to give the Lions the win. The lofty numbers accounted for 175 of the club's 323 total yards on the night and marked back-to-back outings of 100+ rushing yards for the six-year pro.
Through six regular season games, Harris has rolled-up a league-best 519 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 97 carries and his 807 yards from scrimmage is also tops among all CFL players. Notching 14 runs for 10 or more yards leads yet another category among running backs and his average output per game of 135 yards from scrimmage is 30 yards better than any other player appearing in at least five games so far this season.
The Lions now begin preparations to take on the high-flying Hamilton Tiger-Cats who are unbeaten in their new home field digs at Tim Hortons Field. The Lions and Ticats kickoff at 4:00 pm (PT) on Saturday, August 15th with the TSN1040 pregame show beginning at 2:00 pm.
The next BC Lions home game is Thursday, August 20 at 7:00 pm versus the Montreal Alouettes presented by Budweiser.
