Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (April 14, 2005) â The ECHL announced on Thursday that Trenton Titans goaltender Andrew Allen has been named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for April.
Allen registered a 5-1-0 record with a 1.34 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage while helping the Titans clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs and secure home-ice advantage for their first round match-up with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.
The 6'4", 210 lb netminder began the month by making 25 saves in a 3-2 win versus Wheeling on April 1. After stopping 27 shots in a 3-1 loss to Peoria on April 2, Allen registered four consecutive wins to complete the regular season. He made 23 saves in a 2-1 victory over Dayton on April 5, 32 saves for a 2-1 win over Wheeling on April 7, 28 saves in a 5-2 triumph over Johnstown on April 28 and stopped all 28 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season, a 3-0 win over Toledo on April 9.
Allen set a career-high this season with 30 wins, ranking third in the ECHL, going 30-11-3, while recording a 2.36 goals-against average that was eleventh in the league. Allen notched a .916 save percentage in 47 appearances for Trenton and had a .846 shootout save percentage that ranked him second amongst ECHL goalies. A native of Vankleek, Ontario, Allen spent four years with the University of Vermont before beginning his professional career in 2000-01 going 4-0-0 with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage in four starts for Dayton. In his first full season in 2001-02, he was 7-5-3 in 16 games with Macon of the ECHL and 3-2-1 in six games with Jackson of the ECHL while also playing in the AHL where he appeared in two games for Hershey and five games with Utah. Signed by the Titans on February 2, 2003 Allen made an immediate impact, posting shutouts in his first three starts and tying the record for consecutive shutouts set in March of 1997 by Hampton Roads' Darryl Paquette. The fourth-year pro has a career record of 57-27-8 with the Titans including a 2.39 GAA, a .918 save percentage, and a 24-8-2 record at Sovereign Bank Arena.
Allen becomes the third Titan in the six-year history of the organization to win ECHL Goalie of the Month. Dan Murphy claimed the award for Trenton in February of 2002, while Taras Lendzyk won March of 2000.
