Texas Wildcatters News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Texas forward John Snowden is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for April 4-9. He is the second Wildcatter to receive the honor in 2004-05, joining Andrew Ianiero, who was In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for November 15-21.
The 23-year-old Snowden, who was runner up for Player of the Week on April 5, had seven points (5g-2a) in three games including five points (3g-2a) in a 7-3 win against Louisiana on April 8. It was the second time in four games that Snowden scored five points and it was the third hat trick in his last 13 games. He closed out the season with two goals in a 5-3 loss at Louisiana on April 9, finishing with 12 points (9g-3a) in his last five games.
"Our team finished the season with a strong offensive push and we were able to win hockey games," said Snowden. "This award is a reflection of the success of my linemates Andrew Ianiero and Mark Giannetti. We were really clicking the last few weeks of the season."
Snowden led the Wildcatters with 37 goals, 18 power-play goals and 62 points and was second on the team with 25 assists in 71 games. In his first professional season with Texas in 2003-04, Snowden played in the ECHL All-Star Game and scored 43 points (22g-21a) in 72 games, tying for the team lead in goals and finishing second in scoring.
The Snohomish, Wash. native played three years in the United States Hockey League with Lincoln, finishing his career with 143 points (79g-64a) and 285 penalty minutes in 167 regular season games and 20 points (8g-12a) and 29 penalty minutes in 25 playoff games. He had four points (2g-2a) and 25 penalty minutes in 20 games with the United States Junior National Team in 1999-2000.
