
Anchors continue second-half resurgence

Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Mankato, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors defeated the Mankato MoonDogs Saturday night at Franklin Rogers Park by a score of 4-2. The win gives the Anchors a record of 7-4 in the second half and 19-27 on the second half.
Ricky Sanchez got the scoring started in the top of the second when he reached on an error. After a pair of ground outs, Sanchez moved to third and a single from Nehwon Norkeh drove in Sanchez for a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Anchors extended their lead in the top of the third. Ben Allen and Steve Sada singled to start the inning. A sac bunt from Dane Hutcheon put both runners in scoring position and a groundout by Josh Merrigan drove in Allen. Sanchez singled in Sada and the Anchors held a 3-0 lead.
The game got close in the bottom of the sixth against starter Max Knutson. With the bases loaded, paul Panaccione scored one on a fielder's choice. A double from Brinn Bell shrunk the lead down to 3-2.
In the seventh inning, Alexandria got the insurance run they needed. Merrigan and Sanchez singled to start the frame and both were sacrificed into scoring position Matt Duce. After a pitching change, Merrigan came in on a groundout by Kyle Richardson to give a final score of 4-2.
Knutson (5-2) got the win pitching five innings allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout. Ciji Ramos got his first save of the year with four scoreless innings and he struck out three hitters.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Steve Sada (2B) - The Blue Anchors' leadoff hitter all season continued producing at the plate. He finished the night with three hits in five at bats with a run scored. He raised his season average to .335.
