Anchorage Wolverines News Release

The Anchorage Wolverines will kick off the new year in Minnesota for a two-game series against the Minnesota Wilderness this Friday and Saturday with a 4:15pm AKST puck drop.

The Wolverines closed out 2023 with back-to-back wins against the Chippewa Steel. Romulus Riego de Dios grabbed his first goal with the Wolverines during game two with an assist from Luke Anderson.

Bryce Monrean had a superb weekend, throughout the two games Monrean put up three goals and four assists for seven points.

These numbers led to Monrean being named the NAHL's Midwest Division Star of the Week, the first Wolverines player to receive the award this season.

The two wins pushed the Wolverines over the Steel into fourth place in the Midwest Division.

Across the rinks, the Janesville Jets took on the Minnesota Wilderness. The Jets upset the Wilderness in both games, with scores of 5-1 and 5-2. The win resulted in the Jets replacing the Wilderness as first in the Midwest Division, the Wilderness now sit in second.

The Anchorage Wolverines and the Minnesota Wilderness last saw each other in October for a single game at The Ben, which Minnesota stole 4-1.

Prior to the October game, the teams opened their seasons in early September in Minnesota, where Anchorage walked away victoriously, giving the teams a 1-1 record on the season.

Since then, Minnesota found themselves with an 11 game win streak, which crumbled at the skates of the St. Cloud Norseman during a four-point shutout.

Matanuska Brewing Co. will be hosting two Wolverines watch parties this weekend for the two-game series. Puck drops at 4:15pm AKST!
