Anaheim Ducks Sign Defenseman Brendan Mikkelson

The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Brendan Mikkelson to a one-year contract (Mikkelson accepted his qualifying offer). As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mikkelson, 23, appeared in 28 games for Anaheim last season, collecting two assists and 14 penalty minutes. He also skated in 49 games with the Toronto Marlies last year, finishing second among club blueliners in scoring with 22 points (7g, 15a).

Mikkelson has appeared in 64 career NHL games, all with Anaheim, recording four assists and 31 penalty minutes. In addition, he has skated in 146 combined AHL games with Portland, Iowa and Toronto since the 2007-08 season, registering 48 points (15g, 33a) and 111 penalty minutes while adding 43 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Mikkelson appeared in 226 combined Western Hockey League (WHL) games with Portland and Vancouver from 2003-07, notching 70 points (16g, 54a) and 204 penalty minutes. He was a member of Vancouver's 2007 Memorial Cup championship team.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Mikkelson was selected by Anaheim in the second round, 31st overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
