
Anaheim Arsenal releases head coach Larry Smith

ANAHEIM, Calif., Jan. 23, 2007 - Head coach Larry Smith was released Tuesday by the Anaheim Arsenal after compiling a 10-15 record during the team's first season in the NBA Development League. The dismissal was effective immediately.
Arsenal assistant coach Reggie Geary has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. An assistant coach is set to be announced in the next few days.
Smith was hired in July 2006 after spending 26 years in the NBA as a player and coach, and one season in 2005-2006 as assistant coach with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the D-League.
The Arsenal returns to action tomorrow as they take on Albuquerque at 7:00 pm in the Arena at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Twelve teams comprise the 2006-07 NBA Development League season. The league is composed of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim Arsenal (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles D-Fenders (Calif.), Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
