Amerks Summer Player Profile: Matt Duffy

(Rochester, NY)... The latest summer player profile features Rochester Americans' 24-year-old defenseman Matt Duffy. A native of Windham, Maine, Duffy completed his first season of professional hockey in 2008-09, scoring two goals and adding four assists for six points in nine games for the Amerks. The former University of Maine blueliner also appeared in two regular season games with the ECHL's Florida Everblades before notching one assist in three postseason contests with Florida. Originally a fourth-round selection (104th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Duffy signed a two-way American Hockey League contract with Rochester on August 24th.

1) You just re-signed with the Rochester Americans on August 24th. How was does it feel to know where you are playing this season?

It feels great to sign with the Amerks. I like the area and the atmosphere and I'm excited to get things started.

2) Last season, you made the jump from college hockey and played with Rochester and the Florida Everblades. What did you enjoy most about your first taste of professional hockey?

The different style of game compared to college and finally not having to wear a full cage.

3) You played four seasons at the University of Maine. Being from Windham, Maine, how did you enjoy your college experience?

College was a great time! I made a lot of great friends, and being from Maine and playing for Maine, is something I have always dreamed about.

4) How excited are you for Training Camp?

I'm excited to get the season started. Training camp is really going to show me what's it's like to play at a higher level and what I need to work on over the season. It should be a great experience and a great time to show them what I have worked on over the summer.

5) When you are not training, how do you spend your free time?

Anything outdoors, whether it's fishing, ATV riding, boating, golfing or mountain biking.

6) What is your favorite vacation spot?

Bar Harbor.

7) What has been your favorite hockey moment?

Back-to-back NCAA Frozen Fours.

8) Despite being in Rochester only a couple months, what do you like the most about the city?

Everyone is very welcoming and friendly.

9) When you travel, what songs are in your iPod?

I like all types of music but mostly Rock-n-Roll.

10) What's one thing you can't live without?

My cell phone or computer.
