Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans will spend their first weekend away from the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena this season as the team travels west to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The two-game set with the Manitoba Moose is slated for Friday, October 17th and Saturday, October 18th. Both contests are slated for an 8:30 p.m. EST start and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.

The matchups will be the first and second of eight meetings between the North Division rivals this season. Rochester was 1-6-1 last season against Manitoba and is 15-20-1 all-time against the Vancouver Canucks' affiliate.

Rochester enters the week in search of its first win after suffering three consecutive losses to open the 2008-09 American Hockey League season. The Amerks fell victim to the Syracuse Crunch on back-to-back nights as part of a home-and-home series, falling 4-3 Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena and 6-1 Saturday night at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison and veteran centerman Janis Sprukts recorded two-point nights to earn third and second star honors in Rochester's home-opening loss Friday. First-year right wing Michal Repik also tallied his first professional point with a goal in his pro debut. Chris Beckford-Tseu made his first start in net for the Amerks, making 23 saves in the losing effort. Karl Stewart recorded his first point as an Amerk scoring Rochester's lone goal Saturday.

The Amerks completed the weekend Sunday night with a 3-1 setback as the Binghamton Senators made their first of four trips to The Blue Cross Arena this season. Second-year forward Tanner Glass tipped in a Peter Aston shot from the point to provide Rochester's only goal of the night.

Garrison (1+1) and Sprukts (1+1) are tied with two points apiece for the team lead. Manitoba's Jason Krog is the top point-getter for the Moose with three points (1+2). Krog was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks during the offseason after capturing the 2007-08 AHL scoring title and league MVP honors en route to guiding the Chicago Wolves to the Calder Cup. Second-year goaltender Cory Schneider is currently ranked 10th among league netminders with a 2.01 goals-against average and .889 save percentage.

Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that right wing Neil Clark was released from his professional tryout (PTO) and will join the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the CHL. The 27-year-old native of Burnaby, British Columbia, appeared in two games with the Amerks, recording 10 PIM.

The Amerks return home on Friday, October 24th to host the Quad City Flames at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
