Amerks Looking for One Fan to "Break the Ice"
September 20, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Business Operations Rob Kopacz announced today that the Amerks are looking for one fan to "break the ice" and be the first to skate on the ice at The Blue Cross Arena prior to the start of the 2011-12 American Hockey League season.
With the 2011-12 season just weeks away, the ice at The Blue Cross Arena is scheduled to be installed by Monday, Sept. 26. The Amerks will choose one fan to join former Amerk and AHL Hall of Famer Jody Gage, the franchise's all-time leading scorer, for a few ceremonious laps that morning, making the fan the First Skater of the season.
The First Skater will be determined based on submissions to the Amerks' Official Facebook and Twitter pages. Fans are invited to tell the Amerks why they or someone they know should be the First Skater of the season. They can send tweets to @AmerksHockey or write a message on the wall of the Rochester Americans Official Facebook Fan Page ( www.facebook.com/RochesterAmericans). The winner will be chosen by the Amerks front office staff after a review of all submissions and contacted with more details. Submissions can be sent beginning today and concluding Friday, Sept. 23 at noon.
