Allen Americans Celebrate Kelly Cup Title

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans defeated the Wheeling Nailers on Thursday night, by a score of 4-2, at Allen Event Center, to win their second straight Kelly Cup Championship, and win the series in six games.
Chad Costello was named playoffs MVP, after leading the Americans and the league in postseason points with 36 points. Costello was also named the regular season MVP after putting up his second straight 100 point season.
"It never gets old," said Chad Costello, following the 4-2 Allen win. "We have an amazing group of guys who all share this award. Steve Martinson is an unbelievable coach who just keeps on winning."
Greger Hanson scored his 15th goal of the playoffs tonight, that leads all players in postseason goals. Hanson scored one of three power play goals on the night for Allen.
"Our power play has been great all year, said Hanson."We knew getting the first goal tonight would be a big key. Getting the first two goals was huge."
The Nailers outshot the Americans 44-28 for the game, and 35 to 12 over the final two periods. Americans goalie Riley Gill, the all-time ECHL leader in postseason wins, led the Allen charge, picking up his league leading 12th postseason victory.
"What can you say about Riley Gill," said Americans defenseman Aaron Gens. "He's a great leader and fantastic postseason goalie. The three championships in the last five years back it up."
The Americans have now won four straight AA hockey titles, including back to back Kelly Cup Championships. Allen is the first ECHL team to win back to back titles since the Toledo Storm in 93-94.
