Americans Trade Basara, Look To Even Things Up With Utah Tonight

Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, host the Utah Grizzlies tonight at 7: 05 pm in a Mountain Division matchup at Allen Event Center. Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson announced today the club has traded forward Marcus Basara, to the Wheeling Nailers for future considerations. In 18 games with Allen this season he had 16 points.
The Americans trail Utah in the season series 2-1. The clubs will play a total of six times during the regular season. The Grizzlies won for the second time in Allen this season, with a 5-4 victory on Friday night. The Americans battled back twice in last night's game, tying the score at 2-2 and then erasing a 5-2 third period lead to make it a one-goal game late in the final frame. However it was not enough, as the Americans suffered their fourth loss in their last five games.
"We have to eliminate the mistakes," said Americans Captain Joel Chouinard. "We gave them too many easy opportunities to score."
Alex Guptill scored his team-leading 2oth goal of the season on Friday night, adding an assist as well. Eric Roy had two helpers, while David Makowski had two goals and an assist in the loss.
Allen is 8-11-0-1 since the calendar changed to 2018. The Americans suffered their 21st loss of the season last night, which is four more regular season losses than they had all of last year. The team scored 294 goals last season and have just 172 so far this year. The Americans would have to average six goals per game over their last 20 games to come close to last season's total.
'We have the guys to get the job done," said Americans forward Connor Reilly. "Despite the fact things aren't going great right now, we have time to get this fixed and have a long playoff run."
The Americans wrap up a two-game home stand tonight. It's Americans Youth Jersey Night, courtesy of Globe Life, for the first 1000 kids 12 and under through the doors. There will also be a full-team skate following the game. Allen will face Kansas City on the road next weekend.
