Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, dropped a 5-4 decision to the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night as the Americans rally fell short.
The Americans trailed 5-2 in the third period after Ryan Walters scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season on a tic-tac-tow play in front of the Allen net. Allen would respond less than a minute later, when David Makowski netted his second of the night to cut the lead to 5-3 at the 8:05 mark. The score remained that way until the final minute, when Zach Pochiro knocked home a Joel Chouinard shot from the left point to cut the lead to 5-4. The Americans were unable to tie the game, falling to the Utah Grizzlies in the first of a back to back.
"Too many soft plays the ended up giving them quality scoring chances," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "They didn't have to work too hard for the plays they scored on."
Alex Guptill had a goal and an assist in the loss for Allen, his team-leading 21st goal of the year. David Makowski scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season, while Eric Roy added two helpers. The loss was the Americans fourth in their last five games.
The Allen Americans will give away youth jerseys to the first 1,000 kids 12 and under this Saturday night, courtesy of Globe Life, when the Americans again host the Utah Grizzlies. Get here early!! Doors open at 6:05 pm.
They Said It - Americans Captain Joel Chouinard
Question: What went wrong tonight?
Chouinard: "Too many breakdowns. We outplayed them in their zone and that was the game plan but just too many breakdowns. They scored on every single one of them. That was the story tonight."
Question: The team came back from 2 goals down and it looked like the team was going to be headed into the 3rd period tied up. However, Utah got the late goal. Did that deflate the team in anyway?
Chouinard: "Yeah for sure, we had good momentum but I think it started before that. We got away from doing things right that got us the two goals back to back. The penalty kill goal deflated us a little bit but it started before that."
