Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has signed 17-year-old goaltending prospect Drew Owsley to a WHL Standard Player's Contract.

The 5'9", 150-pound goaltender from Lethbridge, Alberta appeared in 20 games for the Lethbridge Y's Men Titans of the Alberta Junior Hockey League last season, going 15-2-6 with a 1.87 goals against average and a 0.935 save percentage. This past season, Owsley was a first-team all-star as he helped lead the Titans to the AMHL Chrysler Division Finals. Owsley also collected the Richard Warwick Memorial Trophy, which is presented to a player based on three main criteria -- ability, leading by example and dedication to the game on and off the ice.

"We are excited that Drew has committed to our program," said Tory. "He is a quality player and person."

"With this signing, we have 5 strong goaltending candidates in our system committed to the WHL, Tory continued. "Drew will compete with Chet (Pickard), (Kyle) Birch, Kyle Jahraus and Brett Martyniuk for the goaltending positions on our team this season."

The Americans' rookie camp will start on Wednesday, August 20 and conclude on Saturday, August 23 with the annual Todd Klassen Memorial Classic. Main camp will then kick-off on Sunday, August 24.
