Chapman to join U of Regina

June 16, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Chilliwack Bruins News Release

University of Regina men's hockey head coach Blaine Sautner announced Monday that former Chilliwack Bruins defenceman Dylan Chapman will join the Cougars next season.

Chapman, who will turn 21 in late August, played in 59 regular season games with the Bruins last season. He scored two goals and added four assists and amassed 92 minutes in penalties. He also appeared in all four of the Bruins' postseason games.

"Dylan is a big, stay-at-home defenceman who can move the puck pretty well," Sautner said. "He's mobile off the rush, has decent feet, and has been one of the better penalty killers in the WHL for the past few seasons. He's definitely a shut-down type of guy."

'This is great news for Dylan,' comments Bruins GM Darrell May. 'It's good to see Dylan take advantage of his scholarship opportunities. We wish Dylan all the best in Regina.'

Chapman, who checks in at 6'4" and 226 lbs., played for four full seasons in the Western Hockey League. He started his major junior career in 2004-05 with Moose Jaw and played in 98 games over two seasons with the Warriors before being dealt to Chilliwack early in the 2006-07 season. He played in a total of 224 regular season games in the WHL, scoring three goals and adding 15 assists and accumulating 281 penalty minutes. He also played in 30 postseason games, the majority of which came during Moose Jaw's 2006 playoff run that culminated in an appearance in the WHL finals vs the Vancouver Giants.
