Tri-City Americans News Release
The Americans and Royals will open their season series with back-to-back games at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.
Tri-City went 1-0-2-0 against the Royals last season. All three games were one goal games. Tri-City's victory came in their last meeting of the season on December 18 as they won 6-5. Nick Avakyan played in net that night, turning aside 33 of 38 shots faced for the Americans.
Both teams come in to tonight's game looking to get back into the win column. Victoria has lost their last two while the Americans ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-3 loss against the Silvertips on Wednesday.
Tri-City struggled to find the net through the first two periods in Everett. The Ams trailed 4-0 early in the third period before finding their offensive stride with a pair of power play goals from Parker Bell and Reese Belton.
Lukas Dragicevic recorded the primary assist on Bell's goal, extending his point streak to 22 games, officially the longest point streak by a WHL defenseman in the internet era (1996-97). He has six goals and 25 assists over that period. The record is held by Jim Benning who had a 45-game point streak in 1980.
Alex Serraglio scored Tri-City's third straight goal in the third period, their only even-strength goal of the night, to put the Ams within one.
Their comeback fell short as the Silvertips recorded a late empty net goal to secure the victory.
Nick Avakyan played in net, turning aside 39 of 43 shots faced. The Ams narrowly trailed shots on goal 44-42. Tri-City's six-game winning streak was their longest since October 2017.
