Rapid City, SD - The Allen Americans used a big third period for a second night in a row to beat the Rapid City Rush. Allen took a commanding 3-1 series lead with a 7-4 win Saturday night, at Rushmore Civic Center.
The Americans trailed 1-0 heading into the second period before the offence got going for both teams. Chris Crane (2), Ian Schultz (5) and Greger Hanson (5) all scored in that second frame for the Americans. Winston Day Chief with his second of the game, and Dallas Ehrhardt his first of the playoffs for the Rush and the teams were tied 3-3 after 2 periods.
For the second game in a row the Americans put four goals on the board in the 3 rd period. Allen erased a 4-3 deficit, scoring four unanswered goals from Gary Steffes (6), Greger Hanson (6), Rylan Schwartz (1) and Spencer Asuchak (7). Hanson finished the game with a four point night, scoring 2 goals with 2 assists. Spencer Asuchak with another two point game is now tied for the postseason lead with 15 points.
"We wanted this one badly," said Americans defenseman Aaron Gens, who hobbled to the bench in the second period with what appeared to be a lower body injury. He returned later in the second and played the rest of the game. "The boys worked hard to earn the win, and Riley made the big saves in the third period to keep the game out of reach."
The Americans are now one win away from advancing on to the Western Conference Finals. Allen leads the Rapid City Rush 3-1 in the series, with Game 5 tomorrow at 6:05 pm, at Rushmore Civic Center.
Games 6 & 7 (if necessary) would be next Tuesday and Wednesday night in Allen. Tickets are on sale at www.ticketmaster.com or call 972-912-1000 for more information.
