Americans Name Wilgosh Alternate Captain for 2010-11 Season

KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans' Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that 19-year-old forward Mason Wilgosh will serve as one of the team's alternate captains for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Wilgosh joins a leadership team that include team captain Kruise Reddick and fellow alternate captain Tyler Schmidt.
Wilgosh, who is starting his fourth WHL season, set new career-highs in every major offensive category last season, totaling seven goals, 19 points, 30 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating. Originally listed by Tri-City in May of 2006, the 5'8 170 pound center from Winnipeg, MB has appeared in 171 WHL games in his career, compiling 16 goals, 38 points and 65 penalty minutes. After suffering a broken jaw during training camp, Wilgosh has missed Tri-City's first 11 games of the 2010-11 season.
"Mason epitomizes everything we ask of our players...TEAM FIRST," Tory detailed. "He joined us as a 16-year-old and has done everything asked of him."
"He is capable of playing on any of our lines, kills penalties and brings a tireless, workmanlike approach to the rink every day," continued Tory. "This is a honor he deserves and he will add to an already strong leadership group."
"Mason continues to grow his role with our team," explained Americans' head coach Jim Hiller. "He took a leap forward with his play in the playoffs last year and has earned the respect of his peers."
Tri-City will return to the ice on Tuesday, October 19 when they host the Calgary Hitmen (3-3-0-0). Game time is 7:05 pm at the Toyota Center. In just their second of three home games in the month of October, the Americans will square off against the Hitmen for the first time since their match-up in last season's WHL Finals, a series Calgary won 4 to 1 in route to their second WHL Championship. The Americans, who are 3-0 at home this season, have won two straight regular season home games against the Hitmen and hold a 5-4-0-0 all-time record at the Toyota Center. Meanwhile, Calgary will be playing their fourth of five games against the U.S. Division, after playing in Everett on Friday and Seattle on Saturday. The game will also be broadcast live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 6:45 pm.
