Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - After a thrilling comeback by the Missouri Mavericks in game five on Saturday night, the Central Hockey League Conference Finals shifted to the Americans home ice at the Allen Event Center for game six. Monday nights' game was another chance for the Allen Americans to close out the series and earn themselves their second berth to the finals in their fourth season.
Missouri came out strong in the first period, taking the play to Allen and notching four goals in the opening frame while keeping Allen to only one. The first goal came off the stick of the hottest hands on the Missouri squad recently, Andrew Courtney. Courtney ripped a wrist shot past Aaron Dell at the 3:07 mark, assisted by Colt King and Ryan Jardine.
Kenton Miller contributed a pair of his own to extend the Missouri lead to 3-0 and chased Aaron Dell from the net just past the midway point of the first period. Miller's first came at 6:40 assisted by Kellan Tochkin and Blake Forsyth, followed by his second at 12:34, assisted by Sebastian Thinel and Riley Emmerson.
Steve Silverthorn replaced Dell and Allen seemed to respond, getting better chances in the Missouri zone and increasing the offensive pressure. That pressure paid off with a late period power play that Allen converted on to cut the Missouri lead to just two at 3-1. Anthony Maiani redirected a pass from the left post past Mike Clemente off a heads up feed from Trevor Ludwig with Todd Robinson picking up the secondary assist at 19:18.
Missouri answered right back to reclaim their three goal lead when Andrew Courtney netted his second goal of the game in an odd-man rush with Colt King at 19:56. The secondary assist on the Courtney marker went to J.P. Testwuide as Missouri ended the period up 4-1 but trailing slightly in shots on goal at 9-8.
The second period saw continued dominance on the ice by Missouri, extending their lead to 6-1 by the end of the middle frame on just a total of 12 shots. First to score in the second period was Andrew Courtney, completing his hat trick at 14:01 assisted by Ryan Jardine and Kyle Hood. John-Scott Dickson then rounded out the scoring for the period at 18:17, assisted by Colt King and Blake Forsyth. After two periods, the Americans lead in shots on net at 19-12 outshooting the Mavericks in the second period by a 10-4 count but surrendering two goals on those four shots.
Allen was able to add one more marker before regulation expired, this time from Darryl Bootland at 12:43, assisted by Kale Kerbashian on the power play. Allen outshot Missouri again in the third period 8-3 for a three period total of 28-15 but the all-important victory goes to Missouri to tie the series 3-3 and force a deciding game seven Tuesday evening.
The seventh and deciding game will be played Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05PM.
The Americans will have a Game 7 special offer tomorrow night. All Military, Police, and Fire active or retired get in free plus one. Contact the Americans office for any further information at 972-912-1000.
