Americans Fall 4-3 in the First of a Home and Home with the Thunder

Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans drop a key game at home tonight to the second place Wichita Thunder 4-3 at Allen Event Center, as the race is heating up in the Central Hockey League.

The Thunder jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first, on goals by Neil Trimm, his 35th of the season, and Dave Inman on the power play from Neil Trimm and Andrew Martens at the 17:05 mark. The Americans held a slight edge in shots, 8-6 after one period.

The Thunder increased their lead just a little over six minutes into the second, when Ian Lowe fired one past Americans Goalie Steve Silverthorn from just outside the face-off circle on the right side to make it 3-0 Wichita. Allen would make a goaltending change, inserting Aaron Dell and the Americans were off to the races. Three unanswered goals ensued for the Americans, starting with a pair from forward Chris Doyle. Allen would tie the score with a power play goal late in the second, when Todd Robinson fired one across the ice to Tyler Ludwig, who ripped one past Torrie Jung and the game was tied 3-3 with just a little over two and a half minutes left in the period. The Americans would outshoot Wichita 23 to 8 in a period that was dominated by Allen.

The Americans were unable to capitalize on an extended power play in the third, as both teams were held scoreless until the18:48 mark of the period, when two guys named Matt connected for the game winner. Matt Summers to Matt Robinson, who fired one past Aaron Dell from the slot to give the Thunder the lead for good and a 4-3 win at Allen Event Center. With the victory, Wichita climbs to within a point in the CHL standings, setting up a big showdown Friday night in Kansas.

The Americans dominated in shots 43 to 19 for the game, but the Thunder get the two points for their first win at Allen Event Center this season, and only their second win ever in Allen in regulation.
