Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
FORT WORTH, Texas (March 20) - The Brahmas take on the Arizona Sundogs Wednesday night for the first of a three-game set at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Each team has secured a postseason berth, but Fort Worth and Arizona can still improve its playoff seeding.
The Brahmas (36-19-8, 80 points) currently stand in third place, two points behind the second-place Wichita Thunder (37-18-8) and three points behind the first-place Allen Americans (37-17-9). Each team has three games remaining, and none of them can fall below the third seed entering the postseason.
With three games remaining, the Sundogs (29-27-7, 65 points) hold the eighth and final playoff spot but could finish as high as the sixth seed entering postseason play.
The last time these two teams met at Tim's Toyota Center, John Snowden exploded for five goals, four of which came in the second period, in Fort Worth's 7-1 commanding victory. The Everett, Washington native's five goals in a single game set a Brahmas franchise record, as did the four scores in a single period. The five-goal performance was also only one score shy of the CHL mark.
Brahmas netminder Kristofer Westblom has had success versus the Sundogs this season, posting a 4-1-0 record, 1.40 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in five starts. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native recorded a shutout in his first start against Arizona November 30 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, stopping all 24 shots he faced between the posts.
Austin Mayer, who was named Oakley CHL Player of the Week Monday, leads all Brahmas with nine points (two goals, seven assists) and a +5 rating in seven games played versus Arizona this season. The 6-foot, 190-pound winger also leads Fort Worth with eight points (three goals, five assists) over the team's last five games and with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) over the last 10 games.
The Brahmas and Sundogs will also meet Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 to close out the regular season.
The Brahmas have clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the Central Hockey League postseason. For information on playoff ticket packages or single-game tickets, please contact a Brahmas sales representative at 817-336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
