Allen Americans News Release
LAREDO, Texas - The playoff-bound Allen Americans dropped a road contest to Laredo 6-1 tonight. Allen's record is now 38-14-4 (78 points).
The Bucks took an early lead just 12 seconds into the game on a goal from Curtis Billsten. Laredo never looked back after that, scoring two more goals on the power play to take a 3-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play. The tallies came from Darryl Smith and Mike Looby.
Even though the Americans fired off 18 shots in the second period, only one would get past Buck backstop Pier-Olivier Pelletier. Americans Alternate Captain Bruce Graham scored Allen's lone goal of the game with 1:11 remaining in the second put the score at 3-1.
Most of the Americans' hopes were gone when an open Jared Mohr put the biscuit in the basket midway through the third to increase Laredo's lead to three again. Ryan Lehr and Robin Richards picked up tallies of their own later in the period to bring the final score to 6-1.
Netminder David McKee stopped 40 shots tonight. McKee started in net even though Chris Whitley was reassigned to the club today after winning his first American Hockey League game in his first appearance Feb. 28 for the Lake Erie Monsters.
Allen put netminder Alexandre Vincent on goaltender injured reserve today, retroactive to March 2.
The Americans host Mississippi Friday and Saturday. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m at the Allen Event Center. Fans will receive thundersticks courtesy of Dr. Ross Miller Saturday night.
