American Conference wins skills competition

BOISE, IDAHO - The American Conference won the skills competition on Tuesday night at the RBK Hockey ECHL All-Star Game in Boise, Idaho.

The American Conference beat the National Conference 17 - 8. The players were tested in various skills including, puck control relay, rapid fire, fastest skater, hardest shot, shooting accuracy, and breakaway relay.

The All-Star game itself will take place on Wednesday night and the American Conference hopes that the victory is a sign of things to come.

Pensacola Ice Pilots' forward Rob Rankin participated in the fastest skater competition, and despite stumbling off the start, he posted a time of just over 15.5 seconds. Joe Jensen of the Wheeling Nailers won the event with a time of just over 14.5 seconds.

Rankin also participated in the breakaway relay and scored a goal on the National Conference goaltender.

Gwinnett Gladiators defenseman Jon Awe set a new ECHL All-Star record in the hardest shot by firing a puck at 102 miles per hour.

The ECHL announced today that the online audio and video broadcasts of the 2007 Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game tomorrow (Wednesday) night will be free of charge through the ECHL web site. Both the audio and video broadcasts will be available through on-demand for one year. The audio game broadcast will begin at 6:45 p.m. MT and the video broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. MT. The video broadcast requires a cable modem or DSL line with a minimum connection speed of 300 Kbps and Windows Media Player 9 or higher.
